Mid Season Update

by Mike Neeley

Okay! After being called out for not throwing any posts up here is a mid season report.

Lumberjack
This may be the best I have ever felt for a race. The fist two laps were easy and I felt like we rolled through them with little effort. I felt the same on lap three and all I could think about was how I was going to turn and burn on lap four but it wasn't to be. At about the 70 mile mark I got a really bad upset stomach and rolled into the pits feeling like I was goint to throw up. I sat in the pits for about 10-15 minutes and then Brian encouraged me to get up and give the last lap a go. I made it to the first climb and started the process of hurling all over the place. The third time I threw up Brian got the opportunity to watch. At that point I called it a day and headed back to the pits. It is disappointing to say the least but I had no interest in riding 25 miles feeling like that. Been there and done that and it aint worth it.

Brian C. had a great race and as I watched him roll up the big sand climb to start his fourth lap he looked fresh as a daisy. He rolled in somewhere around 9:48 which is a great time on that incredibly tough course. Good to see Brian back riding hard again. He is an animal.

Boyne Marathon Report
I finished up with a time of 4:25 for 4 laps at Boyne. My legs felt great on the climbs for all four laps but I will admit that the hardtail I rode beat me to death. It did not help that I picked a really small volume rear tire. I cannot wait to get my Top Fuel FS back. You don't appreciate a FS bike and how much it keeps you fresh on a rough course until you don't have one to ride.

Onward! Looking forward to some fun team 12 hour racing and some good cross-country races coming up but more importantly we are headed to North Carolina to celebrate the birthday of a good friend and get in 4 days of riding on some of the best trails in the country.
